Argon Medical Launches Traveler Portal Vein Access Series, Shockwave Medical Launches Shockwave L6 Peripheral IVL Catheter
Argon Medical, a leading provider of device solutions for interventional radiology (IR), vascular surgery, interventional cardiology, and oncology, has announced the launch of its new Traveler portal vein access series.[0] The series, which includes Traveler 16, Traveler 21, and Traveler 38, is now available in the USA and Canada for transjugular liver access in diagnostic and interventional procedures.
The products are intended to simplify complex portal vein access procedures for customers, with the goal of improving outcomes in accordance with Argon Medical’s mission to improve the lives of patients and caregivers through the innovation, manufacturing, and delivery of best-in-class medical devices.[1]
Shockwave Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: SWAV) also recently announced the full U.S. commercial availability of the Shockwave L6 Peripheral IVL Catheter following clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).[2] The Shockwave L6 catheter is specifically designed to address calcification in large peripheral vessels, like the iliac and common femoral arteries, which are otherwise hard to treat.[3]
The Shockwave L6 catheter’s compact emitter configuration, in conjunction with four new device sizes (8.0, 9.0, 10.0 and 12.0 millimeter diameters), enables effective delivery of sonic pressure waves in larger vessels.[2] This extends the size offerings of the Shockwave M5+ and Shockwave S4 catheters, to provide physicians with a choice of catheters optimised for the challenges of infrapopliteal, femoropopliteal and iliac arterial territories.[3] According to Frank Arko, M.D., Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center, Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Shockwave L6 catheter may also be beneficial when IVL is utilised to facilitate transfemoral access for large bore procedures like TAVR, TEVAR and EVAR to minimise the risks of rupture and dissection.[2]
