Argon Medical Introduces Traveler Portal Vein Access Series & Shockwave Medical Launches L6 Peripheral IVL Catheter

Argon Medical Devices recently introduced its Traveler Portal Vein Access Series as the newest addition to its portfolio. The products, which are intended for transjugular liver access in diagnostic and interventional procedures, are available in stylet and needle offerings to meet physician preference.

Argon Medical, a prominent supplier of tools for interventional radiology (IR), vascular surgery, interventional cardiology, and oncology, has added the Traveler portal vein access series to its collection of portal vein access items. This range of products is created to fulfill the requirements of medical professionals executing transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedures while accessing the portal vein through the liver. For 2021, Argon is launching Scorpion, which supports TIPS procedures, in addition to Traveler supplements.[0]

The Traveler16, Traveler21, and Traveler38 versions of the series are now available in both the United States and Canada.[1] The Traveler16 needle is 16Ga, the Traveler38 stylet is 0.038”, and the Traveler21 Chiba needle is 21Ga.[1]

Shockwave Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: SWAV) also recently announced the full U.S. commercial availability of the Shockwave L6 Peripheral IVL Catheter following clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).[2] Designed for the specific purpose of altering calcification in tough-to-treat lesions present in larger peripheral vessels, such as the iliac and common femoral arteries, the Shockwave L6 catheter is the ideal solution.[3] Standard endovascular techniques have been linked to decreased procedural success and increased complications when calcification occurs in the arteries.[3]

Frank Arko, M.D., Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center, Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina, declared that the Shockwave L6 catheter is pushing the limits of what Interventional Vascular and Endovascular (IVL) therapy can accomplish for patients who suffer from severe peripheral arterial disease. The features of the novel catheter enable healthcare providers to maximize IVL treatment in large peripheral vessels, accounting for more than 20% of peripheral interventions conducted annually in the United States.
